GREENSBURG, Ind. (AP) ? An Indiana woman convicted of setting a 1995 fire that killed her 3-year-old son could go free after more than 16 years in prison.
Kristine Bunch, of Greensburg, is scheduled to appear Wednesday in a Decatur County court for a bail hearing as she awaits a new trial on murder and arson charges.
The Indiana Court of Appeals overturned Bunch's conviction in March after finding the evidence used to convict her was outdated, weak and wrongly withheld from the defense. The court ordered a new trial and ordered the local court to set bail.
Prosecutors contend Bunch doused her son's bedroom with kerosene and set it ablaze. Experts say scientific advances suggest the fire was accidental.
Prosecutor Jim Rosenberry says he intends to go ahead with a second trial.
