One of the most important practices to assure yourself the best and most profitable bet is to keep up with the way oddsmakers adjust their betting odds. In the case of horse racing, money lines and odds can change from one day to the next.
The current 2012 Preakness Stakes odds are a perfect example of that, as things like post positions and other factors force oddsmakers to adjust as we get closer to race day. Now that we are less than 24 hours away from the 2012 Preakness Stakes, it?s time to take a closer look at the odds and how they have morphed from the start of the week.
As you?re probably aware, Bodemeister and I?ll Have Another are expected to finish one and two at Pimlico this Saturday. The question is which one will end up where? Will I?ll Have Another keep his Triple Crown hopes alive, or will Bodemeister get revenge by spoiling his chances? Bet Preakness Stakes now!
At the start of the week, 2012 Preakness Stakes odds specialists listed them both equally as 3/1 favorites above the rest of the field. However, after post positions were announced on Wednesday, oddsmakers have taken a completely different stance.
On Thursday morning, Bodemeister [8/5] woke up as the early line favorite to win ?The Second Jewel of the Triple Crown? ahead of his rival, I?ll Have Another [5/2]. As the week as progressed, the son of Empire Maker remains the projected winner over a field that also includes very capable thoroughbreds such as: Went The Day Well [6/1], Creative Cause [7/1] and Daddy Nose Best [14/1].
So, with such a competitive field why is there so much hype behind Bodemeister? To give you an idea as to why oddsmakers are so high on this horse let?s take a look at his performance at the Kentucky Derby. Despite losing the race, Bodemeister?s performance was one for the books.
People don?t realize that Bob Baffert?s horse ran the fourth-fastest six furlongs (1:09.80) in Kentucky Derby history and the fifth-fastest quarter-mile (22.32 seconds) and half-mile (45.39). And that?s the big difference in this race and that?s why Bodemeister should win it going away!
?I never thought he had it won,? Baffert said in retrospect. ?When I saw the half in :45, I said, ?This is ridiculous.? I was just watching it as a fan from there on. When he cut the corner, still five (lengths) in front, I thought, 'Maybe.' At the eighth pole, I saw that he was showing signs of weakening, and I said, ?You ran your heart out, don't worry about it.??
